Hello and welcome to my Wine Blog! My name is Anna DiCarlo and I do not have much experience with wine, but I am excited to learn more. I turned 21 not too long ago in October. Before I turned 21, I had mostly only had wine when I would try a sip from my parents or other family members. My mom likes white wines, particularly pinot grigio. So I have probably tried more white wines than red, but I’m still not sure which I prefer. Additionally, I have drank wine socially a number of times which usually consists of some pretty sweet, lower alcohol percentage wines. I will typically have wine in casual social settings or at a restaurant. After turning 21 I tried a few more wines at restaurants and went to the Beliveau Farm Winery near here with my parents.
I generally enjoy sweeter wines such as moscato. My friends and I often have Barefoot Fruitscatos (peach and strawberry being my personal favorites). I typically enjoy fruity wines, another being Stella Rosa Stella Berry. So far I tend to not like dry wines, however I have not tried too many. I also recently tried a rose which I enjoyed. In this class, I hope to be able to try a lot more wines and discover new types that I enjoy.
I am looking forward to being able to take this course with friends and being able to share these experiences with different people. In the class, I would like to learn more about how wine is made, the history of wine and the economics of wine. I am curious to know about what makes wines different in things such as alcohol levels, price, and quality. I also would like to develop a basic knowledge of wine including the most popular types as well as the language/terminology that goes along with wine. A main outcome of this course I would like, is to be more comfortable when ordering wine at restaurants and be more familiar with the terms on the menus. I would like to know more about the wine I am ordering and hopefully enjoy it. I am looking forward to a great semester full of wine!
